Frequently Asked Questions

Most frequent questions and answers

What is the time commitment?

Den meetings where children work towards their belt loops are held once monthly. Pack meetings where the entire pack gathers are held monthly. Dens will have occasional outings such as visits to the park or local educational venue. Pack wide outings are optional and held on weekends throughout the year. They are scheduled in advance.

When are meetings?

The pack meeting is held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7pm. Den meetings vary by den but are held on either a Monday or Tuesday.

How much does this cost?

Pack dues are $250.00 for the year + a $25.00 new scout registration fee. This includes nationals and local council fees, insurance, guidebook, neckerchief, belt loops and badge.

Pack wide optional outings such as campouts are additional cost.

There is a new member registration cost of $25.00 which is required by BSA nationals.

How, as a parent, can I get more involved in the pack?

Our pack committee meets monthly (the third Monday of the month) to plan out events and discuss the pack. We encourage every parent to attend to see how our pack activities come together.

Do you perform service activities in the community?

The pack does a canned food collection on 2 weekends in November. We ask that each scout participates in at least one of the 2 weekends.  Den’s may participate in additional service activities in order to fulfill requirements for achieving belt loops/ranks.

Tell me about your camping and outdoor opportunities

Fundraising is critical to the pack in order to keep dues at a reasonable price. We use funds to offset costs of outings, den activities, pay for storage and cover fees required by Boy Scouts of America. Each year, our Pack harvests mistletoe in Angeles National Forest and sells the sprigs in individually wrapped packages. Each scout is required to sell one bag (~$100) of mistletoe plus assist in harvesting, bagging and selling at local stores during the holiday season.

What is family scouting?

We believe that scouting is a family affair. Parents, Grandparents and siblings are always invited to all our activities.

Can siblings participate?

Siblings (younger and older) are invited to all events and encouraged to participate.

How do you reward cubscouts?

Scouts will work with their den and individually on requirements to earn belt loops which are presented to the scouts at pack meetings. When all required belt loops are earned for their rank, the scout will be presented their rank badge (tiger, wolf, bear, etc.) at the end of the year banquet.

Can girls join the pack?

Yes! This is our second year as a co-ed pack. We also are actively working with the Hermosa Beach Girls Troop so that our girl cub scouts can enter the next level when they graduate from Webelos (5th grade)

What are the requirements for Kinder scouts (Lions)?

As a Lion scout, families get the opportunity to sample what cub scouts has to offer. The children with their parents still meet together at their den meeting. However, pack meetings, fundraising, service projects and all outings are optional. As a Lion, each family will be given the opportunity to lead an activity at their den meeting.

Where do I purchase a uniform?

Uniforms can be purchased at the Scout Shop at the Cabrillo Scout Center: 3000 Shoshonean Rd, San Pedro, CA 90731 or online at http://scoutshop.org
